Asus Eee 900 – Battery Drain while Power off

 eee battery

Several eee 900 users experimented this problem when they left their fully charged Eeepcs with the battery plugged in and the power turned off.

After a day resting it went down to 50% and after a couple of days it was all consumed.

It might be a feature of the bios because when you have your laptop turned off you can charge your gadgets and ipods using the usb ports.

The webcam is also a big sink where battery life leaks through so i turned it off in the bios quite easily as i wasnt using it regularly.

I then went and disabled the memory card slot and i experimented a big difference in my power.

So:

  • Don’t panic if your eeepc discharges if you leave him resting with the battery plugged.
Disable those features that you won’t be using in a daily basis (you can turn them on again when you feel the urge).
Keep your battery unplugged and in a cold place, if you are not going to use it in a long time keep it charged at 40% level.
Try installing the 802 bios, they might have solved this issue (not tested yet though).
Get yourself a more capacity battery at eBay.

Asus Eee Blog – Long time no post…

    eee keyboard

It’s been a while since my last post, i know, it’s my fault. I’ve been very busy with university and my other websites so i didn’t have time to get here and post.

I’ll try to sum up everything that happened these days “UMPC wise” in my life…

I sold my asus eee 701 a couple of days before the official release in spanish stores. A great move i detailed in this post: He vendido my Asus Eee, a tiempo.

I sold it to a stranger that offered 375€ for an “in the hands” sale. Awesome for me. Then i started browsing eBay for a new one and came across this e-bagel-tw seller i already read about in some forums and decided to order a 20gb linux Eee 900, it was 390€ shipping includded. Not bad considering how much i got for selling my old 701.

So it came and i downloaded a Windows XP Fundamentals For Legacy PCs rip made by a spanish guy called Karacorum (Ma quedao un XP nikelao) which i highly recommend to anyone because it’s so light and perfect. It even has a built in App to swith the “;” for our very own spanish “Ñ”.

Added the drivers from the Asus CD…

Then i started to customize it with rocketdock, and some basic programs, installed pidgin, vlc, firefox 3 and downloaded some games.

PokerTH Portable, Governor of Poker, Diablo, Neverwinter Nights, Lost in Time with Scumm and Unreal Tournament.

    I was set.

But then a couple of days ago i stumbled upon Backtrack3 for wifi “audition”, a linux distro that will let you “remember” “your” “forgotten” wifi password. You know what i mean.

Im a total noob with linux but a guide i used worked fine enough to get my own password after a 20 minutes test. Ill detail the steps to do this in an upcoming post.

    And that pretty much it.

Ill try to write some posts every now and then as i discover more things about my little liliput machine.

Asus eee 900: 802 Bios Update is Out

eee biosAsus has updated his /bios folder and has released a new official version for the Eee Pc 900: the 802.

You can download it from here: http://update.eeepc.asus.com/bios/

I didnt try it yet because i want to read the changelog first but if you install it please leave a comment.

Edit: “CPU speeds and the unit does boot up at 630Mhz when on Battery, 900Mhz on Mains. The switch between frequencies when you plug/unplug the cord is still working.”

He vendido mi Asus Eee, a tiempo

    msi wind
