Asus Eee 900 – Battery Drain while Power off

Several eee 900 users experimented this problem when they left their fully charged Eeepcs with the battery plugged in and the power turned off.
After a day resting it went down to 50% and after a couple of days it was all consumed.
It might be a feature of the bios because when you have your laptop turned off you can charge your gadgets and ipods using the usb ports.
The webcam is also a big sink where battery life leaks through so i turned it off in the bios quite easily as i wasnt using it regularly.
I then went and disabled the memory card slot and i experimented a big difference in my power.
So:
Disable those features that you won’t be using in a daily basis (you can turn them on again when you feel the urge).
Keep your battery unplugged and in a cold place, if you are not going to use it in a long time keep it charged at 40% level.
Try installing the 802 bios, they might have solved this issue (not tested yet though).

Bought in good faith for its battery life of up to 3 hours – nothing like it. I have other laptops for work so I know how to treat them correctly battery wise.
I haven’t disabled the SD as I presume just taking the card out should solve the exit of power????
hi… i had the same drain problem with my toshiba nb200… it used to drain about 10% when it’s off about 12 hours… i’ve just tried to turn off wake on lan and usb sleep & charge (both on the software and bios)… and it works… thanks for your blog… i never had this problem anymore…

Hello, I have the battery drain problem (as many others). It drains by about 10% every day, while powered off. Disabling the camera does not help at all. I haven’t tried disabling usb and card reader, but I don’t think it makes much sense having to enable them everytime you want to use them (Which is most of the time).
The EeePC 900 is just faulty. Yes, I do panic, this shouldn’t be happening. ASUS should acknowledge the problem and solve it.
